Junior B Hurling Championship Semi-final
KINVARA v PADRAIG PEARSES
Sat 1st Nov, in Loughrea at 2:45pm

Kinvara Junior B hurlers will bid for a first Junior hurling championship final appearance since 1975 when we face rivals Padraig Pearses in the second of this years semi-finals. This match is the second of three current fixtures between our two clubs - they beat us in the senior relegation final last weekend, while both our Junior C's play in the Shield Final due next weekend.

Kinvara have 7 matches under their belt at this stage, with 4 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. The defeats were in the group stages to the hands of TAD and Kilbeacanty, who are both knocked out at this stage. In our preliminary quarter-final we had a good win over Castlegar, while in the quarter-final, we had to work hard to put away a stubborn Craughwell side. That quarter-final was played in wet and windy conditions, and showed the Kinvara lads grinding out a win which have often would have lost.
Padraig Pearses have also played 7 matches, and are actually unbeaten in them all, winning 4 and drawing 3. They had impressive wins over Killimor (preliminary quarter-final) and Oranmore-Maree (quarter-final), and will be aiming in this one to continue with winning streak. Their quarter-final tie with Oranmore-Maree was all to play for being all level with 10 mins left, but the strong finishing Pearses outfit won out by 5 points.

Kinvara manager John Linnane is facing into this tie with again doubts over several key players. Experienced defender Paul O'Sullivan is unavailable, while key players Jonathon Kavanagh and David Huban are both carrying injuries that will probably rule them out. His other difficulty is the lack of game time this time of year and what type of form players are in. However, with a place in a county final at stake, motivation shouldnt be a problem.

This match will probably have just a puck of a ball between the two sides at the final whistle. They are well matched in all sectors and are similar in profile. There is no doubt there will an extra bite to this match, as not only is it a county semi-final, but 7 days ago these two clubs played in the senior relegation final in a real dogfght and winner takes all. Padraig Pearses won that match with a stronger finish after Kinvara drew level with 10 mins remaining. Both these junior squads had a few players playing in that match, while many more would have been on their senior benches.

With Clarinbridge awaiting the winners for a final date, both clubs here will be eager to lift this Junior B title, but there is a small matter of Saturday first.
Bring it on!
