County Cup
Kinvara v Loughrea
Sunday 22nd May in Athenry 4.30pm

So here we are after two games lost and badly needing a win to restore our aspirations of qualifications. After an disappointing show againsat Beagh, the Kinvara lads came back against Craughwell with an improved performance. However they still fell short, perhaps no help to another slow start that left them 2-1 to 0-0 down after only six minutes. We did however rally back and were back in contention by half time. However Craughwell pulled away at the end to win by seven points.
So the key against Loughrea will be a tighter start and that has to be all over the pitch in every position. Its not just the responsibility of the backs, but the forwards will have to start quicker.
The good news from the Craughwell game was the appearance of Ger Mahon after injury. He came on as a sub, so should make a longer show this game. Also, one of our better player sin that game was Stevie Moylan, also back from long term injury. He scored three points including one sideline. Paul Keane also returned after suspension. So at this stage we are beginning to get our full squad available and will be at our strongest all year.
Loughrea suffered defeat to Gort in their first game, and really have to win this one or else face a group relegation battle for the remaining two games. Last years finalists have seen some retirements and immigrations, but are still a force to be reckoned with.
So can our championship hopes get back on track Sunday? The verdict is simply yes they can.
The real question is "will they"? The verdict is "yes", but only if all players get to the first ball and take the game on early.
Kinvara by the narrowest of margins!
