NEWS!!!New Pitch Development

Yes, it is happening!
Kinvara GAA are currently at the contract stage of purchasing approx 5.5 acres adjacent to our current pitch. This is a massive boost to us all and will help us serve our community for many years and generations to come.

Phase 1 of this development is the initital purchase and this is currently underway. As the club will have to entirely fund the cost of purchase itself, there will be a few fundraising projects to complete this. The first event is a Monster Auction on Sunday 25th November. (See coming news items for further on this.)

Phase 2 will involved the actual planning and permission for the new development. This phase will be more concentrated in the early part of next year. It is envisaged that the new development will include a new full sized playing field, a full size ball wall, an astro turf playing area, while it is also expected to incorporate a walking / jogging track around the perimeter. Kinvara GAA caters for a large community, providing facilities for approx 400 playing members. On top of that we provide playing facilites for 3 national schools, aswell as to Seamount College. We also have lots of new members who use our current facility for safe walking and jogging, and we expect this to continue.

It is hard to imagine that up to 1961 (only 51 years ago), that there was no playing pitch of any description in Kinvara parish. Back then a hard working and voluntary community got together and basically built a field from a field of stones and hollows. That generation prove a great inspiration to us all for their community spirit. Thankfully some of those committee members are still with us, while we have said goodbye to many others. Indeed, we now have many grandchildren of the 1961 Field Committee currently playing with us in Faiche Padraig. Little did they realise that 51 years later that their hard work would still be utilised.

We now have another opportunity to provide for the current young generation and the future generations. We hope you join us in our journey and hopefully in 51 years time, and the year 2063, that our games will still be played down the Moy Road!
