Letter from Croke Park to Kinvara GAA!

A chara,

I’m delighted to inform you that your club has been selected as one of the four ‘Off the Booze and On the Ball’ provincial prize winners for 2012.

As you know ‘Off the Booze and On the Ball’ was a health challenge rolled out to clubs for the first time this year through the GAA’s Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) programme. Members of the Association were invited to abstain from alcohol for the month of January and were also encouraged to give their New Year an added healthy kick-start by engaging in some regular weekly activities during the period.  As an added incentive, those who took up the challenge could raise funds for their clubs by seeking sponsorship from family and friends.

Four clubs that registered online at were selected to win the prize of a one-off training session with a leading High Performance Coach or a Sports Nutritionist – depending on what the club selects.

We would be delighted if one member of your senior panel who took up the challenge, plus a club official (e.g. your chairman, ASAP Officer or whoever helped coordinate the challenge in your club) would be able to attend a pitch-side photoshoot in Croke Park on Wednesday, March 21st, at 11am.

I know that your U16 hurling panel also took part in a special ‘Off the Fizz and On the Ball’ health drive to coincide with ‘Off the Booze and On the Ball’ and we would also like to ask two members of that panel to attend the photoshoot as well. Please ensure your players fly your club colours by wearing their club jerseys for the photoshoot.

A press release and photos from the event will be made available to help generate some positive and well-deserved media coverage in your local press.

I look forward to hearing from you in this regard. I will send on full details of the event once you have confirmed that the Kinvara Club will be in a position to send along some representatives on the morning in question.

Le meas,

Colin Regan
