Relegation Preview: Kinvara v Castlegar

Kinvara v Castlegar
Sunday 21st Sept, in Clarinbridge 5:30pm

Both sides renew rivalry early this evening in this Senior Relegation group match. Already Castlegar have beaten Kiltormer, so a win for them here will see them safe. Kinvara will need either a win or at least a draw in order to have something to play for in the final group match against Kiltormer (next Sun 28th).

Manager Ollie Bergin is again facing a lengthy injury list, with long term injuries ruling out Steve Moylan, Aidan Moylan and Ronan Kilkelly, while another four players are also carrying niggly problems. As in the earlier championship matches, the team will be a blend of the young and old, led by captain Shane Quinn.

The two sides have met several times in recent years. In the past 8 championship seasons we have met 5 times, while also meeting 2 times in relegation. That is 7 matches of intensity and we can be sure of high-octane stuff again today.  We met them twice in 2007 and beat them twice, but since then we have lost our championship meetings in 2009, 2012 and 2013. The last time we met in relegation was in 2011, when we first drew and then they beat us.

So, our dogfight for survival continues. Best of luck to all the Kinvara squad and management. We also urge you supporters to get on down there and lets do our part from the hill. Cinn Mhara Abu.
