Seniors to renew Cashel rivalry

One of Kinvara's senior hurlers biggest rivals in the past 5 years are Castlegar, and that rivalry is due to be re-activated this Friday 8th June in Kenny Park, Athenry. This will be the two clubs 6th meeting in those 5 years - a group win for Kinvara in '07, a semi-final win for Kinvara in '07, a preliminary quarter-final win for Cashel in '09, a relegation battle draw in '11, while Cashel won that replay in '11. Indeed the rivalry between us two clubs goes back to 1979 when Castlegar beat Kinvara in our frst ever County Final appearance.

The two sides meet in the second round of group matches, with each side eagerly seeking a vital win. Kinvara lost their opener to Craughwell after at one time leading by 9 points, while Cashel lost their opener to Portumna by 5 points. A win for either side would be vital to re-ignite their championship hopes and put them into a fighting chance of a quarter-final spot heading into the final round of group matches. A defeat will leave the loser with a mountain to climb, while also relying on other results. Basically, in other words, a must win game!

Manager Ollie Bergin has a few injuries this time around, with serious doubts over Shane Quinn and Damien Huban. Several other players have niggly injuries, but are expected to have recovered in time for the battle.

So, 7pm tomorrow evening in Kenny Park. We urge you all to come out and support, and dont forget to bring someone along such as an elderly neighbour, the kids, or other family member.

This match will be close, so lets make the 16th man count!
