Kinvara were in a group of death with Castlegar, Sarsfields and Kiltormer, and also Carnmore. In the opener, we lost badly to Castlegar by 2-14 to 0-5. Sarsfields then beat Castlegar, and then we met Sarsfields. Nobody could predict what could have happened, unless your are an unpredictable seasider! The Connacht Tribune headline the following thursday was:
"Kinvara bounce back to tame giantkillers and stay in the hunt".

Here today we bring you the full match report from 1985 (see attachments)

The Kinvara team that day was:
John Huban, Pat Quinn, Kevin Huban, Albert Connors, Kieran Whelan, Gerry McInerney, Anthony Connolly, Shane Murphy, Ger Curtin, Joe Byrne, Sean Forde, Frank Quinn, Mick Curtin, Declan Brogan, Colm Brogan.

Footnote: We also "shocked" Kiltormer by 4-7 to 1-13, beat Carnmore 1-18 to 2-12, but lost to Turloughmore by 9 points in the quarter-final by 2-14 to 0-11. They eventually went on to convincingly win the county final over Killimordaly by 10 points (1-14 to 1-4).
