Kinvara's last Championship meeting against Sarsfields was back 8 years ago in 2005, when we met in the Preliminary Quarter-finals..

Kinvara headed into 2005 on the back of a relegation battle in 2004, and so were hoping to avoid same scenario in 2005. Our Championship group was Kinvara, St. Thomas', Mullagh, Kiltormer and Portumna.
Our opening game saw a great draw against St. Thomas' (1-13 to 2-10), followed by a defeat to Mullagh (1-15 to 2-9), followed by a priceless win over Kiltormer (1-9 to 0-8), followed by defeat to Portumna (3-14 to 1-9).
Those results saw us qualify for a preliminary quarter-final spot and a date with old foes Sarsfields. That match was played in Kenny Park, and resulted in a sluggish match as conditions were very wet and soft. Kinvara's defenders played very tight but a total of 14 wides was our undoing as Sarsfields won by a solitary point (0-11 to 0-10).
