U16 hurlers begin Championship

posted 26 Feb 2015, 14:27 by Garret Byrne
Our U16 hurlers begin their championship campaign with a journey eastwards to Ahascragh-Fohenagh, to take on the home side in round 1 of the 2015 U16 B1 Hurling Championship.

There will be nothing easy in this tie, and although we havent met Ahascragh-Fohenagh much in recent seasons, this match is the first 3 of three clashes already for this year as we are both also grouped together at Intermediate and Junior C championships.

This U16 B1 has, again, 8 sides all capable of winning it out.
The 8 teams are:
Kinvara, Ahascragh-Fohenagh, Ardrahan, Sylane, Oranmore-Maree, Annaghdown, Kiltormer and Cappataggle.

We know from previous years that in this structure that there can be a fine line between finishing in the top 4 and bottom 4.
(remember a top 4 finish will give a championship semi-final, while a bottom 4 finish will lead to the shield semi-finals).

The squad this year are managed by Brian Connolly, and he is assisted by Fintan Connors and Garret Byrne, while two lads just fresh out of minor hurling - James O'Hara and Ronan Kilkelly - are also on board. There has been a couple of challenges, but numbers were a problem with several of the squad injured or out sick. But there are signs that the squad are beginning to get it together and they will be determined to give an honest account of themselves, starting on Saturday.

Round 1, Saturday 28th March 2015
Ahascragh-Fohenagh v Kinvara, in Ahascragh 1:30pm
Cappataggle v Kiltormer, in Cappataggle 1:30pm
Annaghdown v Ardrahan, in Annaghdown 1:30pm
Sylane v Oranmore-Maree, in Sylane 1:30pm
