U21B Championship Preview

posted 21 Mar 2014, 11:51 by Garret Byrne

KINVARA v PADRAIG PEARSES
Saturday 22nd March, in Carnmore at 3:30pm

So after a few false starts due to the weather, the 2014 U21 championship will finally get going tomorrow as Kinvara U21s face Padraig Pearses.
Manager David Huban will know that his charges will be in for a right ould battle against the Ballymacward-Gurteen outfit, as they always prove tough opponents. Pearses will be aiming to do better than last year when they reached the last 8, and will no doubt be eyeing this game as a match to be won.
Last year Kinvara fielded at U21 after a break of 3 years, and although it was a young side, they did quite well to reach a quarter-final. This year it is again a young side, with only one player, David Burke, being overage for next year. There would be another 5 lads who are on their second last year, and then the balance of the team/squad comprises from our successful minor shield winning team from last November.
So, its a young side, but it is not short of talent and ability. But they will need all the above and more if they are to advance to the next round.

Note: Manager David Huban is assisted on the sideline by Pat Conole, Anthony Byrne and Derek Smith.

Best of luck lads!

U21 B Hurling Championship Preview
The main challengers are probably Killimordaly, Oranmore-Maree, Abbeyknockmoy, Kilconieron and Liam Mellows. In saying that, a lot can change for clubs in a year, not to mention 3 years since they were minors.

Here is how the 16 teams fared in the last 3 relevant championships for them – the Minor from 2011, Minor from 2012, and U21 last year in 2013. It may not help much, but at least gives idea of where each team is coming from.

The best thing is to probably let the games begin and see who comes out on top!

(Thanks to our guy on the stats!)
