Under 14 hurlers in Quarters

Kinvara v Killimordaly, in Craughwell Monday 30th May 6.30pm

So here we are at Kinvara first county championship quarter-final of the year and the honours go our our under 14 hurlers. These events do not happen too often, as for example, our adult hurling and juvenile clubs only reached two quarterfinals last year - our U14's and U16's. So, in Kinvara we have to take these days more seriously.
Our under 14's finished third in their group so will meet the second placed team in the other group Killimordaly.

Our first group game was a solid win against Liam Mellows by 3-6 to 0-9. We followed up this with a poor performance and defeat to Kilconieron by 3-6 to 1-3. Next was a comprehensive performance and vicotry over Meelick-Eyrecourt by 4-9 to 1-4. A tough battle was next against Kiltormer, and the Kinvara lads had their best performance all year to win narrowly by 2-5 to 1-6. However the rails came off a little last Wednesday when we lost at home to Tynagh-Abbey-Duniry by 4-4 to 4-2.
A victory in our last game over TAD would have meant we finished 2nd in the group, and then play 3rd in the other group in the quarters. But the Kinvara lads played poorly, looked very tired and could not match the passion and spirit of a good TAD side.

So what about Killimordaly. They are a very good side indeed, and won four out of five games in their own group, with wins over Portumna, Tommie Larkins, Salthill/Knocknacarra and Carnmore. They lost only the one game to table toppers Ardrahan, but that was only by the one point - 3-1 to 1-6. They will be an formidable side to face and will give nothing easy to Kinvara.
Even at such an early age, this will be the third meeting at competitive level between these two sides. We playd them twice two years ago at under 12 championship. They beat us handy enough in a group game by 0-5 to 0-0. However the Kinvara lads had revenege in the quarterfinals by surprising them by 3-1 to 0-5, with the help of two very very late goals.

A hard game to call. In fact their is very little between all eight sides left in the competition. If one looks at the group games, there was very little between 1st place and 4th place, in fact in one instance only two goals, or two scores.
It will really be a case of which team plays with the most heart and passion and fire in the belly. Will that be Kinvara or Killimordaly.
Come along and support!
