KINVARA.................1-14
CRAUGHWELL..........1-11

Kinvara Junior B's got their first win yesterday eve in this tough match against Craughwell. It took a huge effort from the Kinvara lads who coped with all the efforts from their Craughwell counterparts and withstood the late rally from their opponents.

Kinvara were well worth their value in this win, although there was two periods (one in either half) of Craughwell "superplay" when they looked flying. But once Kinvara controlled their opponents they did enough to win in between themselves.

After Kinvara registered the first wide, it was Craughwell who opened the scoring with a white flag. Two more wides from Kinvara followed before eventually an Ian Bermingham free drew Kinvara level. On the 10 minute Kinvara then were dealt a blow with a serious hand injury to the influential and experienced Kieran Burke. However, it was Kinvara who scored next with another Ian Bermingham free.
Next came the first of Craughwell's purple patches. They scored three points in succession as they played with great pace and speed. Kinvara did regain control and finished the half stronger with two well taken David Burke points from play, plus another free from Ian Bermingham.
Half-Time: Kinvara 0-5 Craughwell 0-4.

It was Kinvara who got the better start to the second half, and a 31st minute Damien Huban point was followed by more white flags - from Ian Bermingham (two - one from play, one from a free) and a good one from Peter Mahon. At this stage with 22 minutes left, Kinvara led 0-9 to 0-4. But again, Craughwell took back control, and for the next 8 minutes had reduced the deficit to 2 points with three points scored. They also missed a couple of wides and really had the Kinvara backs under pressure. But Ian Bermingham settled Kinvara with 14 minutes remaining, but this was quickly cancelled by another Craughwell free.

But from the 20th minute of the second half to the 25th minute was when Kinvara sealed this win. They upped a gear all over the field and scored an unanswered 1-3 to make the score Kinvara 1-13 to Craughwell 0-8. Sub Dara Smith pointed a free, Damien Huban pointed from play, Eric Keane goaled, and Ian Bermingham pointed a free. Craughwell raised another minor flag from a free with 5 minutes remaining, to be matched by another Ian Bermingham effort from play. Craughwell needed goals and went on the hunt and did manage two late pointed frees. Then deep in injury time they scored a goal to leave just three points between the sides. But Kinvara didnt have much time to be nervous as the referee subsequently blew for final time.
