U12 Football League
Sun 9th Jun in Kinvara

Played in blistering heat on Sunday morning, it was the Kinvara boys who excelled for this deserving U12 win over a good Athenry side.

Kinvara started the match brightly but their few scoring chances failed to yield a score. Athenry then in their first attack broke through for a well taken goal and the lead. The Kinvara boys got back into their rhythm, and finished the half with two well taken goals and a point. Half-time, Kinvara 2-1, Athenry 1-0.

The second half saw Athenry take the game to Kinvara and for the next ten minutes they were the team in form. During that time they had the Kinvara backs under great pressure, while their backs gave nothing away. They drew level with a goal and a point and had the momentum behind them. But credit to Kinvara and they recomposed themselves and regained the lead with another goal. This was followed by a three well worked and well taken points in a row to leave us 6 points to the good. Both sides exchanges further points to leave Kinvara taking the spoils on the final whistle.

Credit to both sides for giving a most entertaining match of football. The Kinvara lads had some great play at times, and were very disciplined in the tackle. There was a lot of intelligent teamwork and passing and credit to the coaches for developing this. As always there is always room for improvement, but this bunch of lads are definitely heading in the right direction.

Finally, thanks to Athenry for coming over and playing their part in the match.
