KINVARA.......................2-12
ST. THOMAS'..................0-05

With two wins and a draw under their belts the Under 12 squad faced into what they expected to be a tough encounter against St Thomas'son Saturday evening last at 5pm. Looking to maintain their unbeaten start the boys were sent out by management with instructions to continue their high work rate of the previous three games and look to put St Thomas's under pressure all over the park.

Playing against the elements in the first half Kinvara started brightly enough but were not playing with the intensity that we had come to expect and were being put under considerable pressure by the Thomas' half forward line with a consequent scoreline of 0-1 to 0-4 to St Thomas's resulting midway through the first half, as St Thomas' picked off several tidy points.

With a tactical re-adjustment being made by the Kinvara management, the threat of the Thomas's half forward line began to recede and with it the team began to find their feet to put pressure on the Thomas's rear-guard.  The full back line was rock solid with good performances from David Whelan and Rossa Barry clearing out any threat that broke through the half back line. Patrick Byrne kept strong wraps on the Thomas' full forward who didn't get a sniff of the ball all game. Darren Kilkelly was busy throughout the game dealing with all threats in his usual calm and controlled fashion.

Hard graft from the likes of Karim Mullery, Dean Ivers, Danny Travis and Conail Larrissey around mid-field secured several important interceptions with hooking and blocking of the highest order. Jake Comyn was having his best game of the league intercepting passes and laying off intelligent ball around midfield all day.  The covering back and intensive tackling by the Kinvara lads gradually turned the tide of the game with Kinvara taking control as a result.

Barry Britton was once again pulling a lot of strings from midfield and with the forward line of Daragh Helebert, Brendan Linnane, Donal Keely and Aodhan O'Hanrahan running their markers ragged the scores began to be picked off by the Kinvara team.  Several fine points from play were scored, and, under significant pressure, the Thomas' defence also coughed up 4 scorable frees which were converted by Daragh Helebert and Danny Travis with a resulting half time score of 0-8 to 0-4 to the Kinvara Lads.

With an emphasis on continued concentration and greater intensity on tackling ringing in their ears from the half time talk the Kinvara boys responded in fine fashion after the break with a brace of goals tucked away by Brendan Linanne and further point scoring from Jake Comyn, Daragh Helebert and Donal Keely.  Kinvara also brought on four subs with Michael Corless, Aidan O'Sullivan, Oran Frawley and Joey Droney all continuing the good play, and got well stuck into the action. Thomas' did exert some pressure towards the end of the game but despite scoring a point were unable to further inconvenience the score board with the games ending on an impressive scoreline of 2-12 to 0-5. A third clean sheet for the Kinvara boys in this league, although goalie Ciaran Donohue was rarely troubled due to the tenacious defending at times. He did, however, do what what required when called upon.

A strong performance from a hard-working team that delivered the result despite early pressure.  The importance of hard work and honest play is being learnt by all the team and each player is fighting hard to keep his his place on this team.

With Ballindereen left to play the boys have a chance of topping the league table by beating our near neighbours.  That is the objective they have been set by management and if they maintain their discipline and continue to play for each other as they are currently doing then it will take a very good performance from Ballindereen to beat them.
