U13 B Hurling Championship
Thurs 5th June in Kinvara

KINVARA.................2-4
BALLINASLOE..........2-3

Kinvara U13 hurlers will take the win from this round 3 tie, but will know that it could easily have been a defeat as Ballinasloe will be disappointed not to take a share of the spoils. After a promising start for Kinvara, it took a late, rather flukely, goal to steal the win from the visitors.

Conditions were great for hurling, with the evening nice and sunny, no wind, and the pitch looking great. Kinvara started the brighter and halfway through the first half we had a nice 1-2 to 0-0 lead. But lapse in concentration and complacency allowed Ballinasloe right back into this match and they then chalked the scoreboard with a fine point from play. That score gave them confidence, and errors in the Kinvara defence gave them another white flag. Then, when a '65 was not properly dealt with, the visitors pulled home for a fine taken goal. Another point followed as the easterners led at the break by 1-3 to 1-2.

Kinvara knew what they had to do in the second half, and they followed orders by firing over a fine point from play. That levelled matters, and the lead was to follow shortly with another, this time from a free. At this stage Kinvara led 1-4 to 1-3, but it was now the time for Ballinasloe to pile on the pressure. They were rewarded for their hard work when a long range effort found the back of the net, and so with 7 mins remaining, Kinvara now found themselves 2 points in arrears.

Kinvara went on the attack, but each time it was defended well by the Ballinasloe rearguard. There seemed to be no way through until, with 3 mins remaining on the clock, a ball broke on the 40, and it was sent in towards the Ballinasloe goal. Unfortunatley for them it was allowed bounce, and fortunately for us it bounced into the back of the net. Kinvara now had the lead, but now had to work to keep it.

Credit to Ballinalsoe as they searched for their own score, but time was against them and the final whistle went with a one point win for Kinvara.

Although it was a win, it was at times an indifferent performance from Kinvara. Even on the final whistle, the lads themselves knew they were lucky to get away with this victory. Ballinasloe seemed more hungrier and played at times with more tenacity. In saying that, credit to our boys for coming back from behind and battling for the lead at the end, and more importantly, holding on to it.  The players will have learned a lot from today's match, and hopefully they will build from it.

But overall, well done lads and keep it up!
